What does it mean when someone says their bees have absconded?
Abscond means that the honey bee colony leaves its hive and all its resources that cannot be taken with them. The more resources that must be left behind, the worse the conditions must be at the hive to induce the bees to abandon their hive. This is not the same as a swarm, although its effects to the beekeeper are similar.
